Giya Kancheli’s “Nu.Mu.Zu” in the USA

Following the successful world premiere on 16 October 2015 at the BOZAR in Brussels by the Belgian National Orchestra under the direction of Andrey Boreyko, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra will now perform the American premiere of the new orchestral work “Nu.Mu.Zu“ by the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli on 5 November 2015 in Seattle. The conductor at the Taper Auditorium of the Benaroya Hall will be Ludovic Morlot.

Giya Kancheli about “Nu.Mu.Zu”:
“In the Sumerian language, which no longer exists, ‘Nu.Mu.Zu’ meant ‘I don't know’. Illusions that I knew something gradually disappeared and it turned out that having approached the age of 80 and lived a life full of contradictions I found myself utterly confused. What is happening in the world is gradually, step by step, destroying the last hope in my consciousness, without which, for all of us, life loses its meaning.
‘I don't know’ what will happen in the future. However, having lost hope, I keep dreaming about a world in which fanaticism, sectarian strife and violence are no longer the dominant features of world order.”

Further performances at the Taper Auditorium will take place on 6 and 7 November 2015. “Nu.Mu.Zu” is a commissioned work by the Belgian National Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony.
