German Premiere of Alexander Knaifel`s “In Air Clean and Unseen” in Hamburg
Alexander Knaifel`s “In Air Clean and Unseen” for piano and string quartet will be given its German premiere at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg on 15 June 2012.
The performers will be the “nathan quartett” supported by the pianist Helge Antoni. This is the fifth concert of “nathan quartett: The Concert Series” organised by Ars Musica. This quartet from Hamburg consists of Dana Anka (violin), Maja Hunziker (violin), Roswitha Killian (viola) and Boris Matchin (violoncello).
Knaifel, today living in St. Petersburg, composed this chamber work in 1994. It is already available as a reference recording, issued by ECM, of the Keller Quartet with the St. Petersburg pianist Oleg Malov. The cycle is based on texts by Feodor Tjutchev and consists of the opening movement “In Some Exhausted Reverie” followed by “An Autumn Evening” and the final movement “In Air Clear and Unseen.”
The work was given its Swiss premiere two weeks earlier on 1 June 2012 at the Stadt-Casino in Basel. There, too, the performers were Helge Antoni (piano) and the “nathan quartett.”
