Content:

The opera is set in a surrealistic future world which is delightful and gruesome at the same time. Colin and Chloé, two true “children of happiness,” become acquainted and fall in love in a circle of young dreamers. They marry and live carefree from day to day. This happiness does not last long, however. When Chloé comes down with a mysterious illness, the medical treatment requires their last financial reserves. The breakdown of their ideal world is as unstoppable as Chloé’s infirmity. She dies and leaves Colin in the bitter recognition that happiness, love and life run through one’s hands like sand.
