The composer and pianist Ferran Cruixent was born in Barcelona in 1976.
In 1999 he completed studies in piano and music theory at the “Conservatori Superior de Música de Barcelona,” simultaneously studying violin and voice as well. Between 2001 and 2003 Cruixent received a grant from the “La Caixa” Foundation.
In 2004 he completed an additional study programme in composition at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Munich with Dieter Acker and Enjott Schneider. His catalogue includes works for solo instruments, chamber music, orchestral compositions and multi-media art.
In 2006 Cruixent founded the online magazine “Stereotips” for musical analysis and criticism and in 2007, together with the fi lm director Joan Carles Martorell, the musical and visual project “Urban Surround.” He worked on many occasions with percussionist Peter Sadlo, among other collaborations, and received the best critiques for performances of his works “Focs d’artifici” for percussion and orchestra and “Rituals” for timpani and orchestra. The Miró Foundation in Barcelona selected Ferran Cruixent for the programme “Músiques d’avui” (Music of Today) for the 2008/2009 season.
