After early piano studies, Moritz Eggert began his studies at Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main in 1975. He studied piano at the Frankfurter Music Academy with Leonard Hokanson before transferring to the Munich Music Academy in 1986 in order to study composition there with Wilhelm Killmayer. In 1991 Eggert was co-founder of the Munich Festival “A*Devantgarde.”
Since 2003 he has been a regular member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. For Eggert, art is avowedly a means of overcoming ideological or stylistic boundaries. His music unites humour, playful virtuosity, lightness and seriousness. He has found an unforced, unburdened relationship to tradition in his compositions; his style combines it with elements of entertainment.
