Sofia Gubaidulina has just been chosen Living Composer 2003 during the course of the CANNES CLASSICAL AWARDS by the editors of leading international recording periodicals. Moreover, the recording of Gubaidulina's St. John Passion under Valery Gergiev, issued by Hänssler, has been nominated for the Recording Critics' Prize in the field of choral music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The presentation of the prize will take place in January during the course of the MIDEM 2003 in Cannes.
The CANNES CLASSICAL AWARDS were founded nine years ago in cooperation with leading international music periodicals. They are divided into Critics' Prizes (20 different categories) and so-called Editors' Prizes (Young Artists, Living Composer, Record of the Year).
