Sikorski Magazine

The new Sikorski Magazine 1/2012 has come out!

We are introducing three Polish composers at once in the new Sikorski Magazine 1/2012, all of whom are celebrating jubilees and have left their marks on the music history of their country.

Witold Lutoslawski, Henryk Górecki and Krzysztof Meyer are celebrating round birthdays during the period under review, 2013. Birthdays and days of commemoration of the following year form the heart of the first quarterly issue of our Sikorski Magazine series. Other subjects included in the latest issue are "Generations of Contemporary German Composers" represented by Jörn Arnecke, Johannes Harneit, Wolfgang von Schweinitz and Peter Ruzicka as well as "The Operas of Alfred Schnittke."

There are, however, other interesting articles dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev's opera "War and Peace," recently realised at the Cologne Opera, and the one-act opera "Rothschild's Violin" by Benjamin Fleischmann. The latter work was completed by Dmitri Shostakovich after Fleischmann was killed in the Second World War.
