International Shostakovich Days Gohrisch 2017

The 8th International Shostakovich Days will be held from 23 to 25 June 2017, again in the spa town of Gohrisch in the region of Germany known as the “Saxon Switzerland”. The composer Sofia Gubaidulina will also be honoured at the festival on 25 June 2017 with the 8th International Shostakovich Prize of Gohrisch.

In addition, the festival programme will include the world premiere of the Shostakovich Fragments, unknown until now, from the opera “The Nose”.  Interpreters will be members of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under the direction of Thomas Sanderling.

Beginning in 2017 on each evening prior to the beginning of the Shostakovich Days, a special concert will be presented by the Sächsische Staatskapelle at the Dresden Semperoper. Gennady Rozhdestvensky, a legendary Shostakovich conductor who is now 86 years old, will conduct at the first concert – the First and Fifteenth Symphonies which frame this composer’s profound cosmos.
